Summary

Think Again is a book about the benefit of doubt, and about how we can get better at embracing the unknown and the joy of being wrong。 Evidence has shown that creative geniuses are not attached to one identity, but constantly willing to rethink their stances and that leaders who admit they don't know something and seek critical feedback lead more productive and innovative teams。

New evidence shows us that as a mindset and a skilllset, rethinking can be taught and Grant explains how to develop the necessary qualities to do it。 Section 1 explores why we struggle to think again and how we can learn to do it as individuals, arguing that 'grit' alone can actually be counterproductive。 Section 2 discusses how we can help others think again through learning about 'argument literacy'。 And the final section 3 looks at how schools, businesses and governments fall short in building cultures that encourage rethinking。

In the end, learning to rethink may be the secret skill to give you the edge in a world changing faster than ever。

Want to go back and read the paper version as there were so many points I wanted to linger on。 Bought this one。 That never happens。 I said a few years ago that the older I get the more I realize I don't know。 Such an important skill today to have an open mind and question what we 'know'。 Be careful not to make our opinions part of our religion where we cannot be convinced otherwise。 Some truths we hold onto, but most things in life can change so quickly we need to be ready to accept new informat Want to go back and read the paper version as there were so many points I wanted to linger on。 Bought this one。 That never happens。 I said a few years ago that the older I get the more I realize I don't know。 Such an important skill today to have an open mind and question what we 'know'。 Be careful not to make our opinions part of our religion where we cannot be convinced otherwise。 Some truths we hold onto, but most things in life can change so quickly we need to be ready to accept new information when it comes to light。 。。。more

This book had some new ideas for me that I had never thought of which caused me to "think again。" I also appreciated the author’s ideas in getting others to rethink their strongly held views。 I loved this quotation, "When we try to convince people to think again, our first instinct is usually to start talking。 Yet the most effective way to help others open their minds is often to listen。" This book had some new ideas for me that I had never thought of which caused me to "think again。" I also appreciated the author’s ideas in getting others to rethink their strongly held views。 I loved this quotation, "When we try to convince people to think again, our first instinct is usually to start talking。 Yet the most effective way to help others open their minds is often to listen。" 。。。more

It is a good read based on a solid research。 I liked the angle about the importance of being wrong。 Embracing being wrong as the act to learn something is fundamental to thrive。

3。5 stars。 This was well-written and he is an engaging narrator。 It gave me some things to think about out, particularly the section on "motivational interviewing。" 3。5 stars。 This was well-written and he is an engaging narrator。 It gave me some things to think about out, particularly the section on "motivational interviewing。" 。。。more

Reading this with a work group, one part a month, so this will linger a while and I'll just add some bits I marked。"To unlock the joy of being wrong, we need to detach。 I've learned that two kinds of detachment are especially useful: detaching your present from your past and detaching your opinions from your identity。" (62) <-- particularly good since detach is my word for the year!"Who you are should be a question of what you value, not what you believe。。。 When [you] define [yourself] by values Reading this with a work group, one part a month, so this will linger a while and I'll just add some bits I marked。"To unlock the joy of being wrong, we need to detach。 I've learned that two kinds of detachment are especially useful: detaching your present from your past and detaching your opinions from your identity。" (62) <-- particularly good since detach is my word for the year!"Who you are should be a question of what you value, not what you believe。。。 When [you] define [yourself] by values rather than opinions, [you] buy [yourself] the flexibility to update [your] practices in light of new evidence。" (64)Well I am not happy about the authorship of this one but it's good:"People who are right a lot listen a lot, and they change their mind a lot。" -Jeff Bezos (72)Disagreeable people, love this section, this is me。"Disagreeable people tend to be more critical, skeptical, and challenging。。。 They're not just comfortable with conflict; it energizes them。" (82)"There's evidence that disagreeable people speak up more frequently - especially when leaders aren't receptive - and foster more task conflict。。。 They give the critical feedback we might not want to hear, but need to hear。" (83)"Don't agree to disagree。。。Tension is intellectual, not emotional。。。The tone is vigorous and feisty rather than combative or aggressive。。。They don't disagree just for the sake of it; they disagree because they care。" (88)"Disagreeable people don't just challenge us to think again。 They also make agreeable people comfortable arguing, too。 Instead of fleeing from friction, our grumpy colleagues engage it directly。 By making it clear that they can handle a tussle, they create a norm for the rest of us to follow。" (90) 。。。more

Brilliant and easily digestible book about the importance of being open-minded, how to do it, and how to help other people do it。

I found that some of the concepts were repetitive though interesting。 I also found some opinions not fully formed。 This reflects authors subject message of not taking binary choice。 However it does get confusing at some point as to what the author thinks about few points。 The whole concept of not taking binary choice and to keep your mind open to rethinking contradicts the subject being in a book format where the reader looks for guidance from authority。 A mature mind can discern the layers and I found that some of the concepts were repetitive though interesting。 I also found some opinions not fully formed。 This reflects authors subject message of not taking binary choice。 However it does get confusing at some point as to what the author thinks about few points。 The whole concept of not taking binary choice and to keep your mind open to rethinking contradicts the subject being in a book format where the reader looks for guidance from authority。 A mature mind can discern the layers and absorb the message correctly 。。。more

Another approachable deep dive led by Adam Grant。 A great reminder that it is never too late to change your mind and reassess your methods, long held beliefs, or thought processes, debunking many conventional truisms along the way

This is an excellent book that should be required reading for every single person on earth。

Fantastic book that will change then way you think。 Offers advice for every facet of life: education, careers, work, marriage, business, religion, parenting, etc。 I have plenty of doubts regarding Grant’s research, but that just means the book accomplished it’s goal。

Kari

Definitely a book written for the times we live in。 So important to help us learn from each other and not get caught in confirmation bias。

Braeden McClain

I’d give this book a healthy 4。5 if given the opportunity (ahem good reads app developers) due to not only the authors presentation of issues in thinking but additionally his proposal for solutions。 I just wish all the insta modes i dm would think again when they chose not to respond to me :/

Just awesome。 I think it has a lot of value for me as a human being, & as a teacher。 This was a library borrow, but I just bought a copy so I can keep。

Generally, the message (question your biases, learn how to better approach disagreements) is good。 However all of the anecdotes were too tidy and convenient for me。

I inhaled this book。 It was very interesting, I could connect the situations to myself, to people around me and to current situations in life。 It offered good examples, ideas and how-to do。 I always thought it is important to stay open-minded, especially in this fast changing time that we live。 However, not always was I open to being challenged but this book really opens your eyes。 You really don’t know where circumstances could take you and having an open mind can change your life in one day。 R I inhaled this book。 It was very interesting, I could connect the situations to myself, to people around me and to current situations in life。 It offered good examples, ideas and how-to do。 I always thought it is important to stay open-minded, especially in this fast changing time that we live。 However, not always was I open to being challenged but this book really opens your eyes。 You really don’t know where circumstances could take you and having an open mind can change your life in one day。 Recommend! 。。。more

This is a lovely collection of reflections on life and society in Adam Grant’s typical social science commentary。 I enjoyed listening to it as an audiobook, read energetically by the author himself。 It is an interesting window into thinking about rethinking。 The perspectives are enlightening, while not necessarily life-changing。 This one kind of feels like an expanded podcast, and it remains relevant and timely throughout。

7/10, loved the beginning and the overall message but last 3-4 chapters were just boring and repetitive。 I believer everyone should read this book and the world would be a much peaceful place。
